Shuttle Bus Service for the Pickens High School 2012 Graduation Saturday, May 19-May 7,2012
The Pickens County Board of Education Transportation Department will again provide shuttle bus service as part of the Pickens High School 2012 Graduation Exercise. Buses will depart from the parking lot of the Pickens County Middle School, 1802 Refuge Road, and the parking lot at Chattahoochee Technical College, 100 Campus Drive. Shuttle service will begin at 7:45 a.m. at both locations. Shuttle will continue to run at 10 minute intervals from these locations to Pickens High School before, during, and after the Graduation Ceremonies. The public is encouraged to utilize this service as a convenience during this special occasion. School Board Schedules Called Board Meeting Monday, March 12th-March 10
The Pickens County Board of Education will conduct a called board meeting on Monday, March 12th, at 6:00 p.m. The board is expected to meet in executive session to discuss personneL The board is expected to take action on personnel after executive session. This meeting will be held at the Board Conference Center on D.B. Carroll Street in Jasper. As always, the public and employees are invited to attend.

PICKENS SHERIFF’S OFFICE/PICKENS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION MARCH 1, 2012 UPDATED 7:00 A.M. The Pickens Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a suspicious device reported by a Pickens High School parent at approximately 4:30 p.m. The device was located at the residence of a student of Pickens High School. Deputies arrived at the residence and identified what appeared to be a pipe bomb. It was discovered that one student made the bomb at home and brought it to school to give to the other student who was planning on taking it home to detonate it on his parent’s property. Authorities arrested both students. Both students, age 17, are currently being held by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office and charges are pending in the case.  No other information on the investigation is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.  The Pickens Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Pickens County Board of Education has conducted a thorough search of Pickens High School and has deemed it safe for students, faculty, and staff to return to school today, Thursday, March 1, 2012.  The Pickens Sheriff’s Office will have extra security at Pickens High School to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

PICKENS SHERIFF’S OFFICE/PICKENS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION FEBRUARY 29, 2012
The Pickens Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious device at approximately 4:30 p.m. The device was located at the residence of a student of Pickens High School. Deputies arrived at the residence and identified what appeared to be a pipe bomb. During the investigation, it was uncovered that the student knowingly possessed the device which has been deemed as an explosive. Further information has led investigators to believe the student did possess the device on school property. The student is currently being held by the Pickens Sheriff’s Office and charges are pending in the case.  No other information on the investigation is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.  The Pickens Sheriff’s Department in coordination with the Pickens County Board of Education has conducted a thorough search of Pickens High School and has deemed it safe for students, faculty, and staff to return to school on Thursday, March 1, 2012.  The Pickens Sheriff’s Department will have extra security at Pickens High School to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

The Pickens County Board of Education will hold a planning retreat on January 17, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing through 7:00 p.m., January 17, 2012.  This retreat will be for planning purposes only, and the board will not vote or take any official action. The retreat will be held at Sharptop Cove, 76 Camp Hope Road, Jasper, Georgia.
